Yahoo! Go 2.0, first reaction… good stuff
I downloaded Yahoo! Mobile yesterday and I am quite impressed with it. Aesthetically, it’s really one of the nicest interfaces that I’ve seen on a mobile application. I really like the way that it makes use of lateral movement, which seems to somehow work better on mobile devices than the traditional vertical scrolling that we’ve come to accept on our desk tops (i.e. most desk top browser oriented web pages will allow for vertical scrolling, but not horizontal). I also like the way it pulls just enough content for the mobile user, whilst giving the option to go deeper and get more information if desired. The design of this application acknowledges the mobile context of users, and that is refreshing in a world where so much content is merely refitted for mobile users without regard for their circumstance. This is not meant to be an endorsement for Yahoo!, it’s just my initial reaction and recognition of a good product. It is obvious that the developers at Yahoo! spent some time on this.
